"Wherever this wave of ultra-psychedelic leftfield hip-hop beats is coming from, by golly we like it. Flying Lotus and Samiyam from LA, Rustie from Glasgow, and now Matt "Lone" Cutler on Nottingham's Dealmaker Records all channel the spirit of the late, great J-Dilla, with beats knocked lopsided and lurching in ways that are wonderfully wrong but somehow totally groove, and surging washes of sensuous electronic sounds. lone carves out his own territory within this sound by making heavy use of lush lounge / exotica / easy listening samples, giving the whole a tropical, sunstruck feel that is reinforced by titles like 'Interview At Honolulu' and 'Buried Coral Banks'. This woozily sexy album is trippier than trip-hop ever was." - Mixmag 4/5

Gratitude
Added: 06/07/2008
The Dealmaker enterprise has been built from scratch with no funding or bankroll. We're grass roots, ground on up; an autonomous entity that is ferociously independent. However, in order for us to actualise our ideas, what we've received (in abundance) is a lot of help and a shit-load of favours from sooo many people along the way. So, here's our attempt to name check...
To the multitude of people that have chipped in on sooo many levels; from running the stalls at shows, to helping sand the studio floor, – we cant thank you enough, big love goes out to you all...
Hanna McDonald, Suzi Roseblade, Laura Haywood, Sally Gombod, Lucy Goodman, Ruth Bolstrich, Rob Allan, Beth Bednall, Heather Johnson-Hill, Sophie Johnson-Hill, Sarah Johnson-Hill, Chris Johnson-Hill, Steve Pinnock, Dan Nisbet & Wrapped in Plastic, Zoutr, Evans, Robin Yunga, Ash Dilks, Ash's Mum, Amy Parmieter, Katie Moore, Matt Fairhurst, Jesse Jess Ford, Sherri, Ads, Becka, Big Trev, Lynn Malt Cross, Liz & Fi, Sophie Napthene, Ali Maclehoney, Simon Martin, Sarah Mathieson, Chris Stamp, Sirkus Crew, Forcast Dan, Jared and Left Lion crew, Chris Barker's mate Simeon, Leo Alltorque, Little Soph and Eddie Spaghetti, Boogie Dave, Maria, Vanessa Seeyave, Nicky Jaques, Jenny, Colin Quickfall, Parnham, Naomi Palmer, Ellis (wherever the fuck you are you chav!?!), Felizz, Georgy Dean, Jim & Dee, Toking Jon, John Wailey, Big Mark, S-man, Elisabeth Dixon, Pete Finch, Sophie Pascall, Paul Dunn, Robyn Fuller, Sally Bastard, Harry Bastard, Streets, Graham and the JBs kitchen staff, elevenespana, Stu Pearson, and of course the dark knight of the M1, the female ninja of the north who's generosity couldn't be matched by an army of samaritans on pills - the original Ms Polatzo herself - Stacey Sabir
And of course the artists that we've worked with along the way:
Johnny Morrow, Dave Beaven and leth (Tusken Coalition), Andy and Lee (TheElementz), Nick Stez and Pigeon (Marga Boys) Karizma, Mute, Alison, LG & Biscuit, Dj Element & Rattomatic, Dj Rubbish, Alex Lucas (sickest drummer in Notts), Hughie Six Fingers, Ken Fader, Mic Jones, Lee Ramsey, Manage, Shauna Shim, Shivva, Soldier & Robbin Hoodz, T-Cutt, Dj Fever, Stinx & Dwyz (Non-Thesp) Scorz, Sophie Johnson-Hill, Johnny Crump, Yemi xsif, Matt & Andy (Kids in Tracksuits), Eva, Lavern, Mantis, Quartz and Lorna Harris (C.O.L.D.), Blu and Monkey D (BluMonkey), Cappo, Siobhan Lynch, Wyldeye, Priceless, The Fresh Prints, lataupe, Tom & Ronin (Zetia), Dj Frenic, EJC, Poorly Fluent, emceeKilla (Lost Project), Whity & Kaney King, Foz, Metrenom, Red, Matt Calvert, John Calvert & Adam Betts (Full Fat) Hugh, Tom, Ben Martin, Gaz Sears, Ross, Kit, Si-Tip, (Sicarios guests) Robin Junga, Andy Taylor-Maskery and the many more emcees, djs, breakers, musicians and artists that have blessed our shows ;o) camouflage, spectrum, the cult, ohmygosh!, enjoy the ride, hella, detonate, buttercutts, soundcrash, beats not bombs and all the other obscure promoters that we've collaborated with... nuff respect due.
The Hoodz in the Woodz (past and present) - The peeps at the core of the infrastructure, behind the scenes doing the work:

Present: Hugh Pascall, Amrik Rai, Tom Quickfall, Sean West, Abbott, NoizeskulptA, Ste, Scruffy Dave, Yassa & Señor Enriqo Polatzo..
So yes, this is merely the beginning of the dealmaker anti-prenurial rise, safe for all the support given to the label and our ideas, and most importantly for booking the studio, buying our music and coming to our shows - keeping the artists and staff stocked up with Noodles and steezcakes!
Last but not least, big shouts to Dirty Joe for unwittingly giving us someone who is deemed to be the biggest selling artist in Rap music to date: Dirty Joes Mum coming soon.

dealmaker illustrationist hand picked by Nike to portray "The spirit of Football"
Added: 27/06/2008
Rikki Marr (ROK5), our very own in-house dealmaker artist, aka the ill-ustrationist was hand picked to dance with the devil in the pale moon light and mingle with the global elite in Basel, Switzerland, along with 10 other artists selected from various corners of the world, as the super-brand sought to portray "the spirit of football" via the creations of the artists.
So Rik decided to capture the spirit of the working classes and encapsulate a "you gotta work with what you got" ethos by ripping apart some footballs to lay them flat and use as the canvass on which he etched a superb portrait of Man U striker Cristiano Ronaldo. for millions, especially in South America and Radford, football offers a hope for a way out of of poverty, and to millions that remains a mere hope as only a few make it pro.
Nike specialize in both uber-cool advertising campaigns like this one, and the mass exploitation of indonesia where collectively, their entire work force is paid less than Tiger Woods annual sponsorship fee.
